At present we have 4 cows and 2 oxen. Of the 4 cows "Surabhi" is a full sized milking Gir cow. She is pictured above. The other 3 are miniture zebu cows. We have a large enough barn to care
for all six animals, and we receive enough donations to feed and care for them nicely.
Now we are ready to expand to the next phase. We want to start producing ghee. NOT for selling, we are not trying to make a profit from serving our mother. We want for her ghee to be used for glorifying Lord Visnu, for Agni hotra, to complete the universal cycle of receiving and giving. To acknowledge the role of the Divine in our lives, to demonstrate practically the sacred relationship that exists between man, earth and God.
This particular ghee will be unique in all the world. Made from protected and loved hump cows, who are fed with certified organic grasses, who drink fresh mountain spring water, and who are bred and raised in Canada, in short a very pure product suitable for religious functions.
If we have 20 more cows and a larger barn we can turn this vision into reality.
Use of funds
We need capital to construct our new "Eco Barn". A warm barn is an essential component of taking care of cows in Canada. Especially the ancient sacred breeds need comfort and shelter during the winter months. We have been caring for our Indian breeds of cows for several years now, and we see that they have no problem adopting to the Canadian climate as long as there is a warm barn for shelter during cold periods. The barn we have designed is quite unique. It is energy efficient, and will comfortably house up to 30 cows. It employs passive solar collection, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and radiant floor heating using an outdoor wood powered furnace. It also uses gober gas for boiling milk in the attached kitchen. The concept drawing is seen below. Such a barn will be an attraction in itself and will insure that a steady stream of visitors will come to Saranagati Village to see the Ahimsa Goshala
Sources of Funds
Since we started the Ahimsa Goshala in 2014 we have invested about $50,000 into the project. This includes a $20,000 start up investment by me, Yoginath, and an additional $30,000 in miscellaneous donations during that 5 year period.
Our current base of supporters is loyal, and we do not anticipate any problem maintaining what we have already started. But we want to do more, and so we are looking for investors with deeper pockets. Investors who want to give something back to the world, something that will pay spiritual divedends for many generations to come. Investors who want to buy a cow, donate that cow to the goshala, and who understand the immense value of such an action.
